Greetings to the Thoreau Tennis community! Part of our mission at Thoreau Club and Thoreau Club Tennis Academy is to bring world-class tennis to our courts. In doing so, we hope to create excitement, motivate and inspire the dream of becoming a great tennis player for our wonderful children, parents and players of all ages. With this mission in mind, I am proud to welcome players and fans to the WTA Thoreau Tennis Open, which will host up to 100 of the world’s best professional tennis players!
This will be another important event for Massachusetts. After the great successes of the ITF women’s tennis tournament we hosted in 2019 and 2021, the Thoreau Club, our staff, and our community of tennis players and fans have clearly demonstrated that we are an excellent place to host professional tennis events. This year we have an amazing opportunity to host a new 125 WTA women’s tournament! We are extremely grateful to be able to host this groundbreaking event.
This is another great step forward from our previous editions of the tournament, and is a testament to the effort put into the first Thoreau Tennis Open. We are thrilled to be able to bring this tournament to our club for all to experience! There in person, you can follow the action from home.
As with previous editions, I will be the organizing director and tournament director. I look forward to once again bringing world-class tennis to our courts here at the Thoreau Club. See you at the tournament!

Welcome from the CEO
The Thoreau Club is proud to once again be hosting the Thoreau Tennis Open in Concord, Massachusetts. What an exciting opportunity to bring together our local community and professional women tennis players from all over the world. It is truly an honor to be the gathering place for what is an engaging and energetic event.
Visitors to historic Concord area may already know that the Great-American author, Henry David Thoreau, walked the woods surrounding The Thoreau Club and pondered the bigger questions of life and our connection with nature. Thoreau famously wrote “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” These words parallel one of our guiding principles as a health and wellness organization, which is to provide the tools and resources to help people change their lives for the better.
With that sentiment in mind, we welcome our entire community:
neighbors, friends, supporters, tennis enthusiasts and players to our home-away-from-home club nestled in Thoreau’s woods. It is a
privilege to be a stop on the journey for athletes competing to rise to the top of their sport, and an inspiration to all who are making those small, daily decisions to embrace their best life.

When I was 12 years old, a professional tennis tournament came to my hometown of Springfield, Massachusetts. Thankfully my club was chosen as the practice facility for the event. I can still remember as clear as day when Jimmy Connors and Stan Smith came on the court next to me and began practicing. I was amazed by the way they moved so intensely and hit every single ball with such power. It was after watching that practice that I decided I wanted to be a great player.
This is the thinking that has gone on to bringing the Thoreau Tennis Open to Concord. A huge part of creating great players is exposing them to the world's best in person. By setting up the Junior Masters Series along side the Open, we are hoping to inspire young players form across New England with the chance to play right next to today's stars.
And by offered a scholarship to winners, we are inviting some players to experience first-hand the exciting way we develop players at our Academy.
So welcome! Play hard and may the Force be with you!
